MANILA, Philippines - Tanghalang Ateneo begins its 32nd year, billed as “The Season of Ardent Pursuits,” with La Ronde, a contemporary classic play by Arthur Schnitzler. Written in 1902, La Ronde portrays 10 characters, 10 archetypes which speak for us all, in a round dance where the first character leaves his first partner for a second, and the second leaves the first for a third encounter, and in the end the 10th meets the first. Ateneo aims to answer these questions with its season opener.
Featuring a new breed of thespians from its director, BJ Crisostomo (recent Loyola Schools Awardee for Theater Arts, to production designers Monica Sebial and Sam Quizon, graphics designer and photographer Ella Palileo, sounds designer Miguel de Quiros and lights designer Tony Caw, La Ronde’s artistic and production teams as well as its actors are all young artists.
La Ronde runs from May 5 to 8 and May 11 to 15 at the Fine Arts Theater of the Gonzaga Building in the Ateneo de Manila University. Performances are at 7 p.m., with a matinee at 2 p.m. on May 8. For inquiries and ticket reservations, call Reggie Aquitaña at 0915-1129301.
