MANILA, Philippines - Those who love musical theater and would like to be part of a world-famous musical Flower Drum Song can audition for the principal roles at the CCP Bulwagang Amado Hernandez (CCP Conference Room) today from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The musical is written by the legendary team of Rodgers and Hammerstein, and re-worked by David Henry Hwang of M. Butterfly fame and directed by Obie-Award winning director Loy Arcenas.
The production is in search of actors, singers, dancers for the following roles: lead female character Mei Li, a new immigrant from China, twenties, soprano; Wang Chi Yang, a Chinese opera actor and immigrant to San Francisco, fifties, baritone; Wang Ta, a Chinese-American, son of Wang Chi Yang, twenties, tenor; Chin, wise old family friend of the Wangs, sixties, baritone; Linda Low, a Chinese American showgirl, twenties, mezzo; and Madame Rita Liang, a Chinese American talent agent with strong comic timing, forties, mezzo.
Those who will audition must have had professional acting experience and are requested to come prepared with two songs preferably a ballad and an upbeat character song from a musical theater production. Please bring musical score for piano if accompaniment is necessary. Be prepared to show a two-minute dance routine and do a short reading.
The musical is slated to be staged at the CCP Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (Main Theater) from Oct. 15 to Nov. 7, 2010.
Led by its executive producer, Nestor O. Jardin and by director Loy Arcenas, the administrative and creative staff includes choreographer Edna Vida and designer Gino Gonzales.
