MANILA, Philippines - Committed to promoting peace and harmony among the Asia-Pacific Region, IOV-Philippines (International Organization of Folk Art, Philippines) — in cooperation with the Japan Foundation, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), and Department of Education (DepEd) — will have a conference on folkloric heritage from March 25 to 27 at The Pearl Manila Hotel, near the corner Gen. Luna Street and United Nations Avenue, Manila.
The conference involving Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia, Pakistan and the Philippines will focus on shared visions on pathways to peace. This conference will attempt to highlight the intangible and tangible folkloric traditions to the Asia-Pacific Region. The guest speaker is Education Secretary Jesli Lapus.
IOV-Philippines has presented conferences on myths and legends at Shalom Center and Manila Hotel, the “Re-enchantment of Culture” at the NCCA Leandro Locsin Auditorium, “Ang Albularyo sa Bagong Milenyo” at C.O.D. department store, “The Culture of Peace Myths and Legends” at the Pamantasan ng Maynila (PLM) Auditorium, the first IOV Gawad Kultura Awards with Dr. Alejandro R. Roces as recipient, the National Conference on Families and Culture, the second IOV Gawad Cultura Awards with Cecile Guidote Alvarez and Father James Reuter as recipients, as well as dance drama competitions.
The organization’s other activities include the painting contests held in the cities of Quezon, Metro Manila, Laoag, Ilocos Del Norte, Lipa, Batangas and Baliuag Bulacan.
It is through this conference that similarities can be culled from the discussions, which can be used as a formidable foundation in achieving peace within the region and the whole world.
