Colored Castrillo at Alay Sining

Diatonic Scale by Eduardo Castrillo.

MANILA, Philippines - Eduardo Castrillo’s colored pieces of sculpture in a series entitled Diatonic Scale, will be highlighted at the Alay Sining exhibition at Greenbelt 5 in Makati City.

The Alay Sining’s all-sculpture Art with a Heart exhibit, now on its seventh run, has been an annual partnership between the Rotary Club of Makati West and contemporary sculptors to support children’s education for the Gift of Life International Foundation. To date, the program has helped more than 300 children from all over the Philippines.

Celebrated sculptor Castrillo has been participating in this exhibition since it began. He says, “As a juvenile delinquent in my youth, I know the importance that education plays for the young so I always support this project.”  This is the first time the sculptor is launching such a series of similar forms in varying shades of the warm colors of the sun.  With each piece being one-of-a-kind, the colored series will never be redone and instead Castrillo states, “It will be interesting to explore how many hues of a given color I can pull into a sculpture series made out of black iron metal, and not my usual brass.”

(Alay Sining opens on Thursday, Nov. 27 for a formal viewing event, and will be open for regular viewing from Nov. 28 to Nov. 30, 2014 at the Gallery of Greenbelt 5.)
