‘Meralco Luminaries’ shine

Makati Shangri-La’s Rizal Ballroom shone with the presence of the awardees for this year’s “Meralco Luminaries.” Every year, the country’s biggest power distributor honors outstanding organizations and groups that help the country achieve a better, brighter, more prosperous future.

Recognized for being “partners for progress,” honorees are private institutions and businesses, small and medium scale industries as well as local government units whose success stories significantly contribute to the country’s economic growth. Through these institutions’ partnership with Meralco, their exemplary efforts help the Philippines achieve world class stature.

Awardees are acknowledged for their creativity, leadership and innovation, specifically in managing their energy resources as a contribution towards nation building, by way of job creation, operation expansion, increased exports, spurring foreign investments and advanced knowledge transfer to the local market.

Meralco Luminaries 2014 celebrates “the spirit of inspired cooperation and collaboration that have transformed challenges into successes.” In 2013, the Philippines rose to prominence for registering a 7.2-percent GDP growth, making the country the second best performing economy in Asia, and last year’s awardees were instrumental to the nation’s growing economy, the event organizers noted.

This year’s awardees included five local government units including Antipolo and Quezon City “for their unfaltering service to the people and unwavering belief in the power of collaboration. Small-and-medium scale enterprises whose success stories are serving as inspiration for others, and these include the 7-Eleven (Philippine Seven) Corp. and the Cityland group of companies.

Outstanding industrial corporations such as Anglo Watsons Glass and Hardrock Aggregates were also honored for their collaborative efforts in strengthening the country’s industrial landscape and community. Meantime, outstanding institutions like De La Salle University, the US Embassy and Lyceum of the Philippines University were also recipients for energizing the nation to move forward.
