Living with art

MANILA, Philippines - Lovers of arts and crafts will surely have a field day at MaARTe 2012: Artisans Fair slated on Aug. 24 to 26, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., at the Power Plant Mall in Rockwell, Makati City.

MaARTe is an exhibition and sale of outstanding Filipino arts and crafts. It will gather from all over the country more than 40 jewelers, fashion and home accessory designers and cultural entrepreneurs. Conceived in the same spirit as Art in the Park, the Museum Foundation of the Philippines Inc.’s (MFPI) annual affordable art fair aims to make artisanal Philippine products more accessible to the public. Because these products are handcrafted, they come in small quantities and are only available to a select few who are fortunate enough to know about them. Akin to the way Art in the Park brings contemporary art to a wider audience, the fair will expose people to the beautiful work that is being done by artisans all over the country.

MaARTe will feature furniture and home accessories by A-11 studio of Eric Paras and Bungalow 300; pottery by Joey de Castro; decorative storage from Monteville; tableware by Zentiments; linens by Casa Kyla; table top decorations by Seagull Glass and Philippine Treasures; jewelry and fashion accessories by Tara Soriano, Riqueza of Erica Concepcion, Natalya Lagdameo, Ann Ong, Angela Angeles, Junjun Ablaza, Nesty Serrano, Gina Jewelry, Sittie Aleanah, Studio Bohemia and Ming Ong of Kathang Kamay; whimsical hats and fascinators by Hat Momma; beautiful beaded bags by Yvette Floro; Filipiniana-inspired fashion by Cora Manimbo; and jewelry by Oskar Atendido. A special booth of MaARTe finds curated by members of the MFPI will showcase tea sets by sculptor Impy Pilapil, hand-painted furniture by Jia Estrella and selected pieces from E. Murio.

Albert Avellana, director of Avellana Art Gallery, is curating the exhibition to present the shoppers with the experience of “living with art.”

The fair is presented by the MFPI, Rockwell Land Corp., CITEM, the Department of Trade and Industry, Mercedes-Benz, Security Bank – SB Cards and Calata Corp.

Heading the team of MaARTe 2012: Artisans Fair are Maritess Pineda and Armita Rufino. It is sponsored by BPI, Diamond Hotel, Vibal Publishing Inc., Via Mare, Ralph’s Wine and Spirits, Milky Way Café and Cabalen.
