P100K at stake in CEPCA 36th anniversary tourney
CEBU, Philippines — Some of Cebu’s top chess
players will once again test each other’s mettle in the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association’s (CEPCA) 36th Founding Anniversary Tournament dubbed as 7th Boy “Chessmoso” Pestaño Memorial Cup on Sunday, November 8, at Level 3 of Robinsons Galleria Cebu near the Department of Foreign Affairs
(DFA)-Consular Office.
The organizers, led by longtime CEPCA president Engr. Jerry Maratas, are introducing some innovations this year by creating the Challengers (rated 1900 and below) and Kiddies (Under-15) categories, alongside the Masters Open, to ensure a more balanced competition.
Presented by Jemar Engineering Services and Celjem Construction and Development Corp. in collaboration with the families of the late Boy Pestaño and Jun Olis, the one-day tilt supported by Luciano Construction and Development Corp., Atty. Sisinio Andales, Lahug National High School, JJ’s Electrical Supply and Services, and J2 Hardware offers a total cash prize of close to P100,000.
Aside from trophies, the Masters Open champion will pocket P15,000, while the winners of the Challengers and Kiddies will receive P10,000 and P7,000, respectively.
Cash prizes will also be awarded to the top 10 finishers in each division, along with special awards for top CEPCA players and age-group performers.
Registration is pegged at P200 for active CEPCA members, P250 for PWDs, senior citizens, students, and female participants, and P300 for regular players. FIDE-titled players can join for free.
Those who register onsite will pay P400. They will be awarded a half-point bye in Round 1 and will begin playing in Round 2.
Interested participants may contact National Arbiters Edwin Cablao (0923-6983109) and Kevin Yap (0945-8559800) or CEPCA officer Stephen Rosales (0905-4852026).
