Philippine batters strike in Pony WS

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines brought home a pair of championships from the recently concluded Pony International Softball World Series in McAllen, Texas with Manila reigning supreme in the 18-under division and Sagay City claiming the 14-under crown.
The Manila batters overpowered the United States’ Pride Elite, 8-1, to rule the premier 18U section while the Negrense clouters turned back Mexico’s RXII Kino, 4-2, to complete a golden double for the Philippines in the prestigious event.
The Big City bets earned their third title in the last four editions while Sagay reclaimed the crown it won two years ago.
“This is my fourth year with Manila and this is our third championship. We lost last year and I’m happy we got the title back,” said Manila coach Sheirylou Valenzuela.
Over in Japan, the Philippines pulled off a shock 8-4 win over Japan in the 12-under class of the tough All-Japan Championship at the Aoba no Mori field.
