What do you think of Bishop Oscar Cruz's tirade that the 'no wang wang' policy is P-Noy's only achievement?

Felix Ramento, USA": I cannot understand why a supposed man of God has taken upon himself the task of openly besmirching the national leadership.

Ruel Bautista, Laguna: Tama yata si Bishop Cruz. However you look around, this is how we were before P-Noy, and, yes, ‘no wang wang’ policy is the only big difference or achievement. 

Others enriched themselves

Ignacio Anacta, Metro Manila: At least the good bishop recognizes that P-Noy has an achievement. Others before him only enriched themselves and their families beyond their wildest imagination, at our own expense. 

Not even

C.B. Manalastas, Manila: Not even the ‘no wang wang’ policy is fully obeyed in most parts of Metro Manila, particularly here in Sampaloc. Hence, there’s no achievement at all.

Boy Beltran, Iloilo City: Even ‘no wang wang’ has not been achieved by P-Noy. All his promises have been broken. 

Pessimist

Tony Gomez, Parañaque City: Bishop Oscar Cruz is the kind of prelate who does not inspire membership to the church. His pronouncements are patently inaccurate.

Joel Caluag, Bulacan: Bishop Oscar Cruz is nothing but a non-conforming pessimist. What a life!

J. Rivera, Metro Manila: Bishop Cruz is retired. He should retire his opinion to the dustbin.

Deo Durante, Camarines Sur: The bishop should look elsewhere so he can see P-Noy’s achievements. The problem with our church leaders is they want to dictate on us to believe everything they say.

J.R. Mondonedo Jr., Parañaque City: Maybe Bishop Oscar Cruz should zip his mouth for good if he has nothing positive to say about P-Noy’s achievements. Does he know what it’s like to run a country, with all the problems that the President deals with everyday? I don’t think the bishop knows, right? Instead of blabbering negative opinions, he should disciple the people and teach them how they can have a better relationship with Jesus, or better yet, just stay retired and pray for this country and our President, to give him guidance and wisdom from God. 

He’s a constructive critic

Lorenzo Fernandez Jr., Cabanatuan City: We should salute Bishop Cruz for fearlessly speaking his mind. At least he has the balls to go against sycophants who are hoping for miracles to happen in P-Noy’s administration.

Germi Sison, Cabanatuan City: To be objective in our comment, let us consider Bishop Oscar Cruz not as a cleric, but like any other peace- and freedom-loving Filipino. Bishop Cruz is a constructive critic, and in his apostolate, he is vocal in expressing his sentiments on secular activities, as Prophet Nathan did to King David and St. John the Baptist to King Herod. He is expressing his own opinion as a citizen, though his criticism sounds offensive. Bishop Cruz is not after any reward or credit in his crusade for good governance, unlike the opposition’s and leftists’ tirades that are politically colored. Let the bishop voice out his criticisms, whether he is right or wrong in his perception, as time will be the judge.

Desuel Pardo, Mandaluyong City:Ayos lang mamuna si Obispo Cruz dahil siya ay mamayang Pilipino at alagad ng Diyos na may pag-ibig sa kapwa at sa bayan. Ang hindi maganda ay ang mga personal na puna laban kay Obispo Cruz, na  wala raw karapatan pumuna sa pamahalaan. Marami rin namang namumuna kay P-Noy, bakit pipigilin ang obispo o ang ibang pari?  

Getting even

Robert Young Jr., San Juan: Bishop Cruz’s tirade could be his way of getting even with P-Noy for his stand on the RH and divorce bills. No President has ever defied the church before P-Noy. Over 78 per cent of the people still believe P-Noy is doing a good job in eliminating corruption in government.

Jemz Ramos, Metro Manila: Is it because Pres. Aquino favors the RH bill that the bishop is being vindictive? How irresponsible. 

Isn’t P-Noy a church donor?

Jim Veneracion, Naga City: The good bishop is sourgraping again. P-Noy probably has not been a good and magnanimous church donor, unlike GMA, who pampered members of the CBCP with cash and SUVs.

William Gonzaga, Marikina City: For a member of the Catholic hierarchy that helped prop more than nine years of the Arroyo maladministration, Bishop Cruz should not be too harsh on P-Noy’s barely one year stay in office. He should pray that the Aquino administration would remain the antithesis of the corrupt Arroyo regime, which promoted the culture of corruption and self-serving attitudes of our leaders. His well-meaning suggestions for the government’s task to extricate the masses from poverty will be more welcome, rather than senseless criticism similar of a bishop who reportedly was gifted with an expensive car during Arroyo’s time. 

I agree

Jesus Mendoza, Pangasinan: The ‘no wang wang’ policy is indeed the only visible achievement of P-Noy. He should show some accomplishments to prevent agitation among his critics.

Arthur Gimena, Manila: In a way, I agree with the bishop.

Ruth Sacro, Marikina City: I agree with Bishop Cruz. We cannot keep dreaming. We have to move now and pronto.

Juanito Fuerte, Manila: Well, actually, the bishop should have added that besides the ‘no wang wang’, P-Noy’s other landmark achievement is the banning of some government officials’ habit of taking personal credit on government initiatives by associating their names with public-funded projects. Other than that, I think what the bishop said is the whole truth and nothing but, so help us God.

June Deoferio, Cavite: I think, yes, because all his promises remain at large. He must work double time. 

In fairness to P-Noy

Elmo Cruz, Manila: I wish Bishop Oscar Cruz could be impartial and judicious in criticizing the government. His tirade against Pres. Aquino has been way off. He is disappointed in the shortcomings of the administration in stopping illegal gambling and establishing peace and order, which are not overnight tasks. Although he could be alerting the President to take radical measures in living up to his program of treading the right path, the bishop seems unaware of the decrease in government expenses, while the delivery of goods and services is going up. Graft and corruption are also under control. Bishop Cruz has to double or improve his intelligence network to be perfectly equitable in his criticisms.

Dennis Montealto, Mandaluyong City: If Bishop Cruz is not a man of the cloth and just one of us posters, would anyone care to listen to what he says? Just as we have the right to voice out our opinions, so can he. If all prelates just keep quiet about the goings-on around us, we may find ourselves faulting them for not speaking up. As for the ‘no wang wang’ policy, I cannot equate it as the only achievement or performance of President Noy. Surely, after a year in office, he must have done something to keep the ship of state afloat. I’m just trying to be optimistic. 

Stop the blame game

Ferdinand Rafer, Cavite: I believe so. The administration is all sound, no fury, and good at whining and the blame game. People want results, not propaganda.

Pedro Alagano Sr., Vigan City: Bishop Cruz has guaranteed freedom of expression thus, whether true or not, his tirade on P-Noy is like the tirade of the latter against GMA on numerous issues that boomeranged on him. Na-karma lang si P-Noy. 

Make the bishop President for a week

Rose Leobrera, Manila: I share the same sentiment, because, as I noticed, P-Noy is slow to decide. Remember the hostage-taking at Luneta? Kung si Gordon ‘yun, utas na si Mendoza. Though I realize that the problems left by the previous administration are gargantuan, P-Noy must learn to act on problems with dispatch. Since the genius bishop is always vocal about ills in our government, why not let Bishop Cruz be President for a week? Try lang, so he could experience what it’s like to be up there. Then he can judge for himself if P-Noy is doing his job. How about that? 

Great expectations

Jose Fabello Jr., Cagayan de Oro City: Of course, that’s not true. Like you and me, Bishop Cruz is simply expressing through his teeth the impatience of a country that’s waiting for action.

Marzenario Santin, Riyadh, KSA: Coming from a respected individual of the church, I think it’s a little rude to stretch such tirade. However, I understand what the bishop is trying to say: President Noy must do something great to impress the people, or else he will be remembered as nothing more than an ordinary leader. Filipinos are expecting more from him, and he has five more years to prove the nation that their vote wasn’t wasted.

Rico Fabello, Parañaque City: The need to air such comment is not a must. Nevertheless, P-Noy needs to add more teeth to his promised objectives. Otherwise, he’s bound to get more of these ‘sacred’ opinions. 

Edwin Chinel Monares, Rizal: In fairness, P-Noy’s achievement is a work in progress. I do understand Bishop Cruz, though. Filipinos expect so much from this administration as a result of the many promises contained in the political ads of Noynoy during the campaign. Too early to tell, but it seems that P-Noy is lagging in terms of putting up the mechanism to realize his campaign promise. 

Let’s give P-Noy more time

Ella Arenas, Pangasinan: Hindi naman. Bishop Oscar Cruz wants abrupt change. But how can P-Noy untangle the web of corruption the previous administration has done? One year is so short a time. Let’s give him more time.

Ruben Viray, Antipolo City: Rome was not built in one day, as the saying goes, and anything in progress should be given some credit. Bishop Oscar Cruz should be patient and just be on the watch. Anything which is half-cooked is dangerous. Let’s give more time to our President to do his job, even slowly but surely.

Audy Doropan, Olongapo City: I agree with Bishop Cruz’s statement. However, it is very early to judge the President. He still has five years to work.

Bong Nebrija, Quezon City: If a man of the Church like Bishop Cruz starts to have a tirade on the performance of the President, then P-Noy should already make his personal unbiased performance evaluation of his team. Bishops should be the last people to lose patience in the governance of this country. But, in fairness to P-Noy, it is still a long way to put this country back on its track, with the many problems we are facing right now.

Leonard Kristian Gelacio, Cauayan City: At least P-Noy has an accomplishment. He still has five more years to prove to us what more he can do other than the ‘no wang-wang’ policy. Let us not put the obligation of fulfilling our aspirations on the President. However, the clincher is, P-Noy as President, has all the powers and the resources to make our country a progressive one.

Agens Mendoza, Metro Manila: Mayroon namang iba aside from ‘no wang wang’, i.e. he revived KKK, he he he.

Edwin Castillo, Tanauan City: Bawal ang wang-wang, ayon sa Pangulong mahilig mag-bang-bang. Pero hindi bawal ang palpak na kaibigan, kaklase at kabarilan sa kanyang gabinete. 

Wake-up call

Danilo Rogayan Jr., Zambale:sBeing the head of the nation entails a gargantuan responsibility. Feedback, criticism, and tirades from the people are natural components of leadership and governance. I only hope that Bishop Cruz’s harangue would serve as a wake-up call for the President for him to walk his talk. He should not remain callous and indifferent to the pressing issues confronting his administration. He should proactively deal with such issues and substantiate that he can achieve more for the country, aside from implementing the ‘no wang wang policy.’  

What has the church accomplished?

Manuel Abejero, Pangasinan: And may I ask what achievements can the good bishop, in particular the Catholic Church in general, report to the parishioners? Seven hundred years of hocus pocus?

Dr. Francis Regalado, Manila: Rather than bickering on P-Noy’s sole achievement of stopping wang wang, the church must look into its own problem. Every Sunday, many people go to mass and yet the society has remained the same. What is given as a homily in church is not lived by their followers, and that includes the corrupt, crooks, adulterers, and fornicators. Pardon my stand, but the church should do something about “blind religiosity” in this country. A couple with a corrupt background even serves as lay ministers in our church. How dense can they get. 

Big fish remain scot-free

Elpidio Que, Vigan :Archbishop Oscar Cruz is saying that the ‘no wang wang’ policy is P-Noy’s only achievement because jueteng, which he opposes, is still out in the open. I am afraid that both our feet are still treading the crooked path. Big-time tax evaders, smugglers and grafters that he promised to “crucify” in his campaign are still there feasting on us.
