LPA inside PAR likely to become tropical depression — PAGASA
MANILA, Philippines — The low pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) has a "high chance" of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours, state weather bureau PAGASA said on Wednesday, September 3.
As of 3 a.m., PAGASA said the LPA is estimated to be 1,190 kilometers east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon.
However, PAGASA weather specialist Loriedin De La Cruz-Galicia said that it has no direct effect on the country.
The southwest monsoon, locally known as “habagat,” remains the prevailing weather system that may bring rains to some parts of the country, specifically the western portions of Luzon and Visayas.
Ilocos Region, Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Apayao, Zambales, Bataan and Occidental Mindoro may expect cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon.
PAGASA warned residents of these areas of possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to, at times, heavy rains.
The habagat may also bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms to Metro Manila, the rest of Central Luzon, CALABARZON, the rest of MIMAROPA, Bicol Region and Western Visayas.
The state weather bureau also warned residents of these areas of possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country may expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the localized thunderstorms.
