Tropical Depression Jacinto develops off Subic Bay

MANILA, Philippines — The low pressure area brewing near Subic Bay developed into a tropical depression on Thursday morning, August 28. It takes the local name "Jacinto."

According to PAGASA, the tropical depression was last spotted 460 kilometers west of Cubi Point, Subic Bay at 8 a.m.

Jacinto is packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of 55 kph.

It is moving west northwest at the speed of 20 kph.

PAGASA has forecast possible flash floods and landslides due to the occasional heavy downpour brought by Jacinto over Metro Manila and several provinces in Luzon.

This includes the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Isabela, Quirino and Nueva Vizcaya.

Jacinto is the 10th tropical cyclone to enter the Philippine area of responsibility in 2025.

The state weather bureau will start issuing updates of Jacinto's movement and strength starting 11 a.m.
