Tropical depression "Lagalag" has maintained its strength and started moving northwest slowly yesterday.
"Lagalag" will continue to induce the southwest monsoon and bring rains over Luzon, particularly the western section, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
At 4 p.m. yesterday, its center was spotted 250 kms west-southwest of Basco, Batanes or 200 kms northwest of Laoag City with strongest sustained winds of 55 kph near the center.
"Lagalag" is forecast to be 270 kms west-northwest of Basco, Batanes this afternoon.
It will be 300 kms west of Basco by Sunday afternoon and 320 kms west-northwest of Basco by Monday afternoon.
Public Storm Warning Signal No. 1 remains hoisted over the Batanes group of islands, Cagayan, including the Calayan and Babuyan islands, Apayao and Ilocos Norte.
These areas will have rains and winds of not more than 66 kph, and moderate to rough coastal waters.
Extreme Northern Luzon will have rains and gusty winds, and moderate to rough coastal waters. The rest of Luzon and northwestern Visayas will have occasional monsoon rains, becoming frequent over the western section.
The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms.
