Mandaue to transform greenhouse into public park
CEBU, Philippines — A roughly 3,000-square-meter lot near a mall in Barangay Ibabao-Estancia, Mandaue City is set to be developed into a public park by the city government within the year.
The property is owned by the Department of Agriculture (DA) and is covered by a 35-year usufruct agreement with the Mandaue City Government.
In an interview, Councilor Joel Seno said the agreement allows the city government to let another entity develop the property, provided the project is aligned with the DA’s purpose.
According to Seno, a private developer will undertake the transformation of the property into a public park.
He said the existing greenhouse on the property will be incorporated into the development and converted into a more attractive park.
“The mayor wanted it para naay adtoan ang mga tao,” Seno said, referring to the city’s goal of providing residents with another recreational space.
Seno said the development of the approximately 3,000-square-meter property is expected to begin and be completed within the year.
“It will be transformed into a beautiful park, hopefully,” he added.
The councilor did not disclose the project’s budget but assured the public that the park will be open and accessible to everyone. (CEBU NEWS)
