Ramos siblings spark Philippine weightlifting hopes
MANILA, Philippines — Similar to the brothers Carlos and Eldrew Yulo in gymnastics, Philippine weightlifting has its own share of sibling athletes too.
Meet sisters Rose Jean and Rosegie Ramos.
Just a few days after the younger, 20-year-old Rose Jean took a snatch bronze in the 49-kilogram division, the 22-year-old Rosegie followed it up with her own snatch bronze in the 53kg class where she lifted 97kg.
She wound up fifth in both clean and jerk with a 114kg and total with a 211kg.
Chinese Zhang Haiqin took the golds in snatch (98kg) and total (221kg) while North Korean copped the silver in clean and jerk (123kg).
It was the second bronze for Rosegie in the Worlds with the first coming two years ago in the -49kg category in Manama, Bahrain.
Apart from the medal, it earned her precious qualifying points for the 2028 LA Olympics.
And there is hope both the Ramoses advance there, just like the Yulos.
