US, Japan seen as Philippines’ vital partners

MANILA, Philippines — A majority of Filipinos consider the United States and Japan as the Philippines’ most important partners for economic security, a recent survey conducted by Pulse Asia showed.
The Sept. 17 to 23 survey, commissioned by Stratbase ADR Institute, asked the respondents to select from a list up to three countries or organizations that they consider as the Philippines’ most important partners for economic security amid global risks.
The US topped the list with 73 percent of the respondents choosing it among their three, followed by Japan with 62 percent.
Stratbase president Dindo Manhit said the results underscored the Filipinos’ recognition of the role of the United States and Japan in strengthening the Philippines’ economic and strategic position.
