MANILA, Philippines — The Manila city government launched yesterday its first public electric vehicle (EV) charging station at the Kartilya ng Katipunan, with two more stations planned before the year-end.

The charging station features a 30-kilowatt direct-current fast charger and a 22-kilowatt alternating-current standard charger.

Mayor Isko Moreno said the installation of the EV charging station marked a milestone in pushing sustainable and accessible mobility for commuters.

Moreno said the facility would address drivers’ woes about the lack of public charging infrastructure.

The charging station was launched in cooperation with ACMobility, which manages over 200 EV charging hub locations and 600 charge points nationwide.

Moreno said the collaboration with the EV infrastructure firm is a step to address the emerging needs of Manila’s motorists.

Additional EV charging stations will be installed at the Bagong Ospital ng Maynila and Sta. Ana Hospital before the end of the year.
