Mandaue youth to represent Visayas in national choir tilt

CEBU, Philippines — The Huni Mandawe of the Mandaue City School for the Arts (MCSFA) will compete in the finals of the 53rd National Music Competition for Young Artists (NAMCYA) Padayaw after winning the regional round in the youth choir category.

The MCSFA Children and Youth Choir will represent the Visayas in the national finals scheduled from November 17 to 22 at the Metropolitan Theater in Manila.

Choir director Nino James Bañares said the group secured its spot after emerging as the regional winner in the youth choir category.

The choir performed its winning piece during a visit to the office of Mandaue City Mayor Thadeo Ouano on October 1.

Its members also shared details of their qualification for the national finals.

The 53rd NAMCYA Padayaw National Finals will gather qualifiers from different regions who will compete in their respective categories.

NAMCYA is a national music competition that provides young Filipino musicians an opportunity to compete and demonstrate their skills in various musical disciplines.

For Huni Mandawe, the Manila competition will mark the next stage of its participation after winning the Visayas regional round in the youth choir category.

Also present during the meeting were MCSFA elementary school head Dr. Liza Mae Baruc and secondary school head Cherrel Encontro. — /MRM (FREEMAN)
