Cokaliong’s 39-point show powers CECABA All Stars to fifth straight win

CEBU, Philippines — Chester Cokaliong exploded for 39 points - all from beyond the arc - as the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association (CECABA) All Stars came up dominated Toyota Mandaue North anew, 111-101, to stretch their unbeaten streak to five games in the 1st Edgar Cokaliong Memorial Basketball Tournament supported by Shell Pilipinas Corporation at the Don Edgar Stadium of Cokaliong Tower.

At age 65, Cokaliong amazingly maintains his sharpshooting skills on the court.

The esteemed shipping magnate bombarded Toyota Mandaue with 13 3-pointers, seven of which he dropped in the third quarter that helped stretch CECABA’s lead to 18 points, 89-71, going in the final 10-minute mark.

CECABA then warded off Toyota Mandaue’s endgame resistance to preserve a double-digit victory.

Dean Dy Teves complemented Cokaliong’s effort with 23 points in his finest game so far.

Mark Eugene Bukiron tallied 16 markers while BJ Zosa added 12 points for CECABA, which moved a win away from completing a six-game sweep in the double round elimination.

Jason Estremos led Totoya Mandaue with 29 points.

Ken Estenzo bagged 23 points, Dionesio Espinosa scored 21 while Diether Soco submitted 18 points but to no avail to Toyota Mandaue fell to 2-2.

Prior to his explosive performance against Toyota Mandaue, Cokaliong was already on fire from long distance.

He sank eight triples en route to a 24-point haul that keyed CECABA’s 108-98 drubbing of the Monday Hoopers.

Cokaliong sank five treys in the third period as the Easternians kept a nine-point advantage, 78-69, which they never relinquished rest of the way.

Cokaliong was backed up by Paul Martin Gabatan with 17 points and Zosa with 13 points.

Bukiron and Karl Tiu combined for 21 points underscoring CECABA’s balanced attack.

Raj Advani top-scored with 22 points for the Monday Hoopers with 22 points followed by Roi Mata with 20 points.

Nario Salibay, Jamel Eriso, and Loling Abella  connived for 48 points but they all went home on pensive mood as the Monday Hoopers remained winless in four matches.
