City ramps up road asphalting projects

CEBU, Philippines —  The Cebu City Government is stepping up road asphalting projects across barangays in the North and South Districts as part of efforts to improve road conditions and provide safer and smoother travel for residents.

Mayor Nestor Archival said the initiative aims to provide Cebuanos with more comfortable travel.

“These projects are funded by the people’s taxes, and we are returning them through services that can be directly seen and felt in the community,” Archival said.

He added that Chief of Staff Kenneth Siasar is personally overseeing and monitoring the implementation of the projects on the ground to ensure efficiency and accountability.

In the North District, ongoing works cover Elizabeth Street in Barangay Camputhaw; Lincoln and Noli Me Tangere streets in Barangay Ermita; Langub and Tawagan 2 in Barangay Sirao; Sepulvera and Green Mosque in Barangay Zapatera; H. Joaquino and the Mabolo Elementary School area in Barangay Mabolo; Luyo in Barangay Adlaon; and Upper Agnawi in Barangay Guba.

Meanwhile, asphalting works in the South District are being carried out in Proper Toong in Barangay Toong; Proper Bonbon in Barangay Bonbon; Hamlik in Barangay Babag; Dam-an in Barangay Pamutan; 5th Street in Happy Valley, Barangay Guadalupe; Villa Mangga and Laguna in Barangay Bulacao; Vestil in Barangay Mambaling; and the MOA Arena side in Barangay Mambaling.

Archival said the program forms part of the city’s broader vision of building a “Smart, Sustainable, and Inclusive Cebu City.”

He stressed that while infrastructure maintenance may be considered routine, it remains essential in delivering direct and tangible public services.

“Taking care and taking action for Cebu City means ensuring that our roads reflect the kind of service our people deserve,” he said. –
