Lapu-Lapu City Heroes secure gold, silver medals
CEBU, Philippines — The Lapu-Lapu City Heroes bagged a championship crown and a first runner-up trophy in the Cebu Youth Football Cup 2026 at the Dynamic Herb-Borromeo Sports Complex recently.
In the Under 14 division, the Heroes secured the gold medal behind the remarkable performance of Most Valuable Player and Golden Glove winner Wil Jacob Rom.
The Oponganon booters beat Giuseppe and ADA Cebu with the same scoreline 1-0 but bowed to CFC-A for a 2-1 record in the group stage, enough to send them to the quarterfinals where they escaped past Toledo, 2-1.
They then battled to a 1-1 draw with Corona del Mar in the semifinals. Thanks to Gurman Kumar Sheetak, they punched a final ticket against Tabor Hills.
In the championship match, Sheetak and Rom powered the Heroes to title glory with a 2-0 drubbing of Tabor Hills.
Under the guidance of coaches John Dave Regner, Lops Tumulak, Joseph Estremos, Rylle Ancajas, and Khent Vincent Sotto, the other members of the Heroes U14 champion team are Mark Eurey Singh, Zacc Roshan Lomadilla, Toa Hoshino, Patrick San Lucmong, Thor Dennis Hvidsten, Samuel Aaron Magnetico, Julian Alexander Marañon, C-Kremer Bendaño, and Arquilles Torrejos.
In the Under 10 category, the Heroes fell short of their target but still proud and happy of their silver-medal haul.
Bannered by McJohnston “TJ” Singh, Spencer “Pensor” Sven Lomadilla, Daren Himaya, April Tumulak, Yno Javen Nudalo, Zeus Tampus, and John Sebastien Gutladera, the Heroes went undefeated in the group stage. They pulled impressive victories against Look Girls FC A, 9-0, and Toledo, 5-0, before eking out a 3-2 decision over Look Girls FC B, 3-2.
Lomadilla and Singh each scored a brace as the Heroes outclassed Giuseppe, 4-1, in the quarterfinals. The vaunted tandem sustained their hot charge, with Singh completing a hat-trick and Lomadilla finding the back of the net once as the Heroes blasted Makati FC, 4-1, to barge into the final where they eventually faltered at the hands of Sugbu Calidad, 1-0.
