The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association (CECABA) All Stars bannered by Chester Cokaliong rolled to their second consecutive victory with a 100-69 thrashing of Toyota Mandaue North in the 1st Edgar Cokaliong Memorial Cup Basketball Tournament sponsored by Shell Pilipinas Corporation at the Don Edgar Stadium of Cokaliong Tower.

Mark Eugene Bukiron top-scored again for the CECABA stars with 21 points while Cokaliong sank five 3-pointers of his 17 points. They combined for 17 points in the first quarter to help the Easternians take an early double-digit lead, 23-13.

BJ Zosa, Richard Yu, Marven Bauya, and Karl Tiu then joined the scoring fray as CECABA outpointed Toyota Mandaue in the second frame, 29-16, to mount a 52-29 advantage at halftime, which they stretched to an imposing 80-50 bulge at the end of the third period.

CECABA never let their guard down despite enjoying a huge lead on the way to a masterful 31-point demolition.

In all, six CECABA players cracked double figures. Tiu tallied 14 markers, Harold James Tan poured 10 of his 12 points in the second half, while Yu and Zosa scored 10 points each.

James Lan finished with 17 points while JP Batac and Jason Estremos combined for 25 points but to no avail as Toyota Mandaue stumbled after a rousing start.

In the other game, Alvin Bustos fired 28 points while Jonel Camboanga and Reil Young connived for 38 points as the Wednesday Club barged into the win column via a 93-92 cliffhanger against the Monday Hoopers.

Michael Viliran contributed 10 points for the Wednesday Cub, which staged a great comeback to stun the Monday Hoopers . They trailed for most of the way, including at 73-63 after three quarters but flipped the script with an explosive 30-19 endgame rally.

Oliver Yguinto exploded for 30 points and Nario Salibay banged in 25 points but their impressive showing went to the dustbin as the Monday Hoopers lost for the second time in a row.
