Habagat strands 48 passengers in Southern Tagalog ports
MANILA, Philippines — Nearly 50 passengers are stranded and several vessels have sought shelter across ports in Southern Tagalog due to the southwest monsoon, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said.
PCG monitoring conducted between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m. on Sunday, August 30 recorded 48 passengers were stranded across eight ports due to inclement weather.
The disruption affected the following ports in the region:
- Real Port
- Pola Port
- Looc Port
- San Agustin Port
- Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Balayan
- Anilao Port
- Calatagan Port
- Wawa Port
To avoid rough seas and hazardous weather conditions, a total of 30 maritime vessels were reported sheltering in secure coastal areas, including:
- 10 motorized vessels
- 11 tugboats
- 9 barges
State weather bureau PAGASA said Metro Manila, Ilocos Norte, the rest of the Cordillera Administrative Region, Nueva Vizcaya, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas and Occidental Mindoro may experience occasional rains due to the southwest monsoon.
The southwest monsoon may also bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms to the rest of Luzon, Western Visayas and the Negros Island Region.
