University of Makati student found dead in campus

MANILA, Philippines — A 17-year-old student was found dead inside the University of Makati yesterday, the UMak confirmed.

Police said a security guard discovered the lifeless student at 8:30 a.m. Responding units cordoned off the area.

Taguig police chief Col. Julius Añonuevo said the case remains “under investigation” and has not divulged the circumstances behind the victim’s death.

The university said it has reached out to the parents of the student and coordinated with authorities for proper investigation.

“We kindly ask the community to respect the family’s privacy by refraining from spreading speculative details and by upholding compassion across all platforms. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the student’s family and loved ones during this difficult time,” UMak said in a statement.

The university stressed that guidance counselors, faculty members and staff are available to provide psychological support to any student who needs it.

Meanwhile, a 25-year-old woman died after a fire hit a residential area along 13th Street in Barangay Damayang Lagi, Quezon City yesterday.

The Bureau of Fire Protection said the woman, who was not identified, was trapped on the third floor of their house during the blaze, which left at least 30 families homeless.

In Muntinlupa, acting police chief Col. Olivia Ancheta said investigators are still determining the identity of a man found dead along a creek in Barangay Bayanan on Thursday.
