MANILA, Philippines — The Federation of Free Workers (FFW) and 10 labor organizations under the Nagkaisa! Labor Coalition have asked the Regional Trial Court Branch 152 in Pasig City to lift its injunction against the implementation of the P85 wage increase for workers in Metro Manila, saying the employers who sought the court order have failed to post the required P10-billion bond.

The labor groups, which are seeking to intervene in the case, questioned why the injunction should remain in effect if the petitioning employers cannot comply with the court-imposed bond.

“(The) court has no jurisdiction and the employer-petitioners have not deposited the P10-billion bond with the Pasig court. There is no longer a basis for stopping the wage increase,” FFW president Sonny Matula said.

The groups said the employers’ own pleading stated that they did not have the practical capacity to post the P10-billion bond in cash and that no readily available surety bond of such amount could be secured.
