MANILA, Philippines — Up to 9,364 permanent employees of the Manila city government will receive the third tranche of their salary increase starting Sept. 1, Mayor Isko Moreno announced yesterday.

Despite the city’s tight fiscal position, Moreno said the local government has allocated approximately P99.08 million to boost the employees’ salaries by at least four percent.

The mayor said the pay hike aims to recognize the city’s workforce and their contribution to the local programs and projects.

Moreno directed city government officials and employees to start processing their paperwork for the salary increase next month.

The appropriation for the salary adjustments will be forwarded to the city council for approval.
