MANILA, Philippines — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is investigating an alleged delay in responding to a 911 emergency call involving a 71-year-old man who suffered a heart attack in Taguig.

DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla ordered the probe following a viral Facebook post by Basti Askri, who said his family dialed 911 for nearly 10 minutes but received no response while his father needed a medical emergency.

Askri also alleged that when an ambulance arrived, it lacked an automated external defibrillator and other essential medical equipment.

The family was forced to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the patient without medical personnel assisting them, but the patiet eventually died, according to the post.

The allegations prompted the DILG to look into the 911 response and the equipment available in the responding ambulance.

Contrary to Askri’s allegations, Remulla said the 911 hotline acted immediately on the distress call.
