‘Erring’ CIW trust Officer returns
MANILA, Philippines — A trust fund officer at the Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong has returned to the CIW amid an investigation into the alleged mishandling of P6 million in inmates’ assets.
Absent since July 29, corrections officer Bianca Ramos returned on Saturday and expressed willingness to cooperate in the investigation.
Ramos apologized, saying she had left the facility due to emotional distress and concern for her personal safety.
Bureau of Corrections Director General Gregorio Catapang Jr. said Ramos’ return was a “significant step in the probe.”
In compliance with administrative rules, Ramos must file a leave of absence covering July 29 to Aug. 16.
