86 arrested for cybercrimes in July

MANILA, Philippines — Eighty-six people were arrested last month in an intensified Philippine National Police drive against cyber criminals.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said yesterday the nationwide campaign against cybercrime and other offenses committed through digital platforms.
At least 38 of the suspects were arrested during sting operations, while 47 were nabbed through arrest warrants.
The cyber crimes include libel, illegal access, computer-related identity theft, online sexual abuse and financial fraud.
“We do not just keep our streets safe. The PNP has to evolve as the ways crimes are committed also evolves,” Nartatez said in a statement.
The PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group has conducted 2,149 cyber patrol operations, 92 digital forensic examinations and served 152 cyber warrants.
