Over 70 board passers get P5K from Lapu-Lapu government
CEBU, Philippines — The Lapu-Lapu City government awarded P5,000 cash incentives to around 78 Oponganons who recently passed their professional licensure examinations.
The recipients comprised the city’s second batch of board passers recognized under City Ordinance No. 14-095-2017, or the Lapu-Lapu City Board Passers Incentives Program.
The city also recognized three Oponganon topnotchers who excelled in their respective licensure examinations.
John V. Labrador topped the April 2026 Registered Electrical Engineers Licensure Examination with a rating of 94.25 percent.
Je C. Ycong placed fourth in the April 2026 Real Estate Broker Licensure Examination with a rating of 92.25 percent, while Arvin C. Ruiz placed fifth in the March 2026 Licensure Examination for Teachers with a rating of 94.20 percent.
The three topnotchers each received P60,000 under the city’s incentive program.
Labrador was supposed to receive an additional P100,000 incentive for placing first. However, he was found ineligible for the official incentive after records showed that he was not an active voter and had not voted in the last two elections.
A voter’s certificate is among the requirements for the official incentive.
Despite his ineligibility, Mayor Ma. Cynthia King-Chan and Congressman Junard Chan personally gave Labrador a P50,000 token in recognition of his achievement.
With the latest recognition, the city has now honored a total of 156 Oponganon board passers.
The city government said the program is part of its efforts to recognize and support Oponganons who excel in their chosen professions. — (FREEMAN)
