MANILA, Philippines — What started as a Pinay 1-2 show ended in a free fall.

The Philippine party in the opening round turned into a double stumble Friday at The Standard Portland Classic at Columbia Edgewater – the Fil-Am leader falling down the board and the Filipina second-placer bombing out of the tournament altogether.

Filipina Bianca Pagdanganan turned a promising 66 into disaster, limping to a 3-over 75 to miss the cut, while Fil-Am first-round leader Mariel Galdiano followed her opening 7-under 65 with a 1-under 71 and barely survived the 36-hole cut.

Pagdanganan’s collapse was stunning. Teeing off the front nine at the par-72, 6,541-yard Columbia Edgewater Country Club in Portland, Oregon, she unraveled with four bogeys plus a double bogey on the par-4 17th against three birdies for a two-round total of 3-under 141 – 11 shots off Thai frontrunner Arpichaya Yubol, who shot a second straight 6-under 66 for 12-under 132.

It was a nine-shot swing from Pagdanganan’s opening round.

The seven-year LPGA pro, in the field by invitation after losing her Tour card after a tough 2025, hit 11 of 14 fairways but found only 11 of 18 greens and needed 33 putts, five more than Thursday. She bogeyed the par-5s Nos. 3 and 6, birdied No. 7 for a 37 at the turn, dropped shots on 11 and 13, revived with back-to-back birdies on 14 and 15, then undid it all with a double on 17 – 38 home.

The most painful part – it came on a day of ideal scoring, mild weather and calm winds, with the field going low.

Galdiano, meanwhile, couldn’t replicate her early magic.

The Hawaiian of Filipino parentage, who opened with nine birdies in the second group off No. 1, cooled to just two birdies against a bogey on her second round for 136 – 8-under – plummeting from solo lead to a tie for 12th, just four shots inside the cut line which fell at 4-under in the birdie-fest.

A 65-71 start still leaves her with weekend work, but a long way from the top.
