Lifeless fetus discovered in a canal
CEBU, Philippines — A dead fetus was found in a canal in Zone Sayote, Barangay Paknaan, Mandaue City, at around 3 a.m. on Friday, August 14.
The Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) launched an investigation after its Command Center received a report about the discovery at around 7 a.m.
According to the police report, a resident first noticed an object in the canal at around 3 a.m. but initially thought it was a discarded white plastic bag because of the darkness.
The resident returned to the area when daylight came and discovered that the object was actually a fetus lying in the canal.
The Barangay Paknaan Public Emergency Response Team was immediately contacted, while an ambulance was dispatched to the area.
Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) also processed the scene, documented the area, conducted an examination, and collected evidence that could help establish the circumstances surrounding the discovery.
MCPO Director Police Colonel Cirilo Acosta said authorities are conducting a thorough investigation and coordinating with concerned offices and agencies to ensure that all available evidence is properly documented and examined.
The MCPO is also tracing the person who left the fetus in the area.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify the person responsible. (CEBU NEWS)
