High school student assaults cop over reprimand
BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — A police officer was injured after he was allegedly punched by a senior high school student whom he reprimanded for skateboarding near a school in Barangay Granada in this city yesterday.
The officer, a master sergeant, had stopped a group of students from skateboarding on the road as they were causing traffic, according to Maj. Andy Ofalia, chief of the city police station 5.
The officer, who was in civilian clothes, was talking to one of the students when another student punched him.
The suspect was allegedly wearing brass knuckles when he punched the officer, who suffered injuries in the eye and nose.
The suspect, whose identity is withheld, reportedly fled toward the school.
Although the officer was immediately sent home after receiving treatment, he was unable to report for work due to his injuries.
