Manibela to postpone transport strike on August 10

MANILA, Philippines — Transport group Manibela on Sunday, August 9, announced that it would postpone its transport strike scheduled for Monday, August 10, due to inclement weather.

In a statement, Manibela said the decision to put the transport strike on hold was driven by concerns for public safety and the immediate needs of affected families.

“Marami sa ating mga komunidad ang lubhang naapektuhan ng baha at hanggang ngayon ay hindi pa rin ligtas ang kalagayan. Sa ganitong sitwasyon, mas mahalagang unahin muna natin ang ating pamilya, kaligtasan, at kapakanan ng bawat isa,” Manibela said.

(Many of our communities have been severely affected by the floods, and conditions remain unsafe. In a situation like this, it is far more important to prioritize our families, our safety, and everyone's well-being. Nothing is more important than the safety of our members.)

"Manatili muna tayong alerto at mag-ingat. Tulungan natin ang ating mga kapwa apektado ng baha at sama ng panahon," it added.

Rains are being experienced in different areas across the country on Sunday due to the Southwest Monsoon, locally known as “habagat.”

The rains have resulted in flooding on some roads and left passengers stranded at ports.

On August 3, Manibela announced a transport strike after weeks of oil price hikes.

The transport strike was scheduled to be held from August 10 to 12.
