PBA postpones Sunday games due to heavy monsoon rains

MANILA, Philippines -- The PBA has postponed the Governors’ Cup games scheduled on Sunday due to severe weather conditions. 

On Sunday, Rain or Shine was supposed to face Phoenix, while Barangay Ginebra was originally slated to take on Blackwater. 

The games were set to be played at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila. 

“In light of the severe weather conditions, and with the safety of our fans, players, officials and staff as our top priority, the PBA has decided to postpone its Sunday, August 9 games,” the league announced on Facebook. 

The updated schedule of games will be announced soon. 

“The PBA urges everyone to take all necessary precautions and to stay safe.” 

Monsoon rains have been almost non-stop in several areas across the country the past few days.

There were rain delays during games the past couple of days because of leaks. 

On Friday, at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium, the game between Meralco and Magnolia was put on hold just before the fourth quarter because of a leaky roof. 

On Saturday, the start of the matchup between San Miguel and Macau also got delayed because of a leaky roof at the Ynares Center in Montalban.

The game was also paused during the action. 

Rain or Shine and Phoenix are both holding 4-2 win-loss records and eyeing to take a solo lead in Group B play. 

Meanwhile, Ginebra (2-3) aims to go up the standings at the expense of the 3-3 Blackwater squad.
