MANILA, Philippines — A revolver was confiscated from a pupil inside Pulang Bato Elementary School in Biliran, Leyte as municipal police conducted a routine school visit on July 29.

The school principal surrendered one caliber .38 revolver without ammunition that had been found in the possession of one of the students.

After interventions from the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office of Almeria, the child was turned over to the parents for diversion proceedings in accordance with the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act.

Authorities are tracing the source of the firearm and how the student was able to access it.

In a related event, a student was held under police custody after sneaking a firearm into a school campus in Isabela City, Basilan on Wednesday.

The police said safety protocols were implemented in the school after the 15-year old elder brother of the subject went to the campus and allegedly threatened the principal and teachers who had reported and detained the student.

Police investigators disclosed that the registered owner of the firearm reported that the gun had been stolen after he left his vehicle at a car wash station.
