Detained Marcoleta taken to PGH for medical evaluation

MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Rodante Marcoleta has been brought to the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) in Manila for an independent medical examination.
On Tuesday, July 14, Marcoleta was brought to the PGH from the Philippine National Police (PNP) General Hospital in Camp Crame. He was wearing a vest while in a wheelchair.
This was after the Sandiganbayan, on July 13, ordered a medical examination on Marcoleta, who was reportedly suffering from mild pneumonia, along with high blood pressure.
Reports also said that the lawmaker has a degenerative disc disease.
After the examination, the anti-graft court has ordered a PGH doctor to submit and testify before the court the results of the medical examination.
Marcoleta is currently in the custody of the PNP after his arrest following the Third Division of the anti-graft court's order to apprehend him for plunder.
This is over P75 million in undeclared donations during his campaign in the 2025 elections, which he did not declare in his statement of contributions and expenditures.
His co-accused are former lawmaker Mike Defensor and two other businessmen.
