Mimaropa focus crime rate declines

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — Incidents of focus crimes in Mimaropa have dropped by 48.63 percent within two months, or from 183 in May to 94 this month.
Police said focus crimes include murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft, carjacking and theft of motorcycles.
Mimaropa – which is composed of the provinces of Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan – also logged an 11.02-percent decrease in overall crime incidents, or from 944 to 840 cases during the same period.
Peace and order indicator crimes dropped by 24.68 percent, from 624 to 470 cases, the regional police said.
Among the notable improvements are the reduction in cases involving physical injury, which dropped by 65.22 percent, followed by theft, 52.27; rape, 50.91 and murder, 33.33 percent.
Robbery and motornapping or theft of motorcycles also declined during the period.
Brig. Gen. Christopher dela Cruz, Mimaropa police director, attributed the improvement in the region’s crime rate to intensified anti-crime efforts as well as police visibility and deployment, which strategically position policemen and resources.
