Dizon slams PGH project linked to Zaldy

MANILA, Philippines — Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon yesterday criticized the slow progress of a construction project at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) in Manila.
In a joint venture with FS Co Builders and Supply owned by fugitive Zaldy Co’s family, Edison Development and Construction Inc. bagged a P679-million contract for the construction and rehabilitation of buildings at PGH.
Based on reports, the project, which started in December 2024, is only 16 percent completed.
At yesterday’s inspection, Dizon confronted the contractor’s representatives.
“Your joint venture partner is Zaldy Co’s brother. No wonder,” Dizon told Eldonn Uy, general manager of Edison Development.
Co, a former lawmaker, is evading authorities after being implicated in anomalous flood control projects.
“The rainy season is coming again and this area will be flooded once more,” Dizon said.
He instructed public works officials to cancel the contract if the project fails to meet a June completion target.
