Tourist van plows into 3 minibuses
CEBU, Philippines — Three parked minibuses were damaged after being hit by a tourist van in Sitio Awayan, Barangay Poblacion 3, Carcar City, early yesterday morning, June 15.
Passengers aboard the tourist van were immediately brought to a hospital for medical treatment, with the front-seat passenger reportedly the most affected by the incident.
Based on the initial investigation and witness accounts, the driver of the tourist van was allegedly drowsy while driving.
Authorities said the vehicle veered out of its lane and crashed into the last of the three parked minibuses along the roadside, the resulting domino effect caused damage to the two other vehicles.
A witness to the incident said the three minibus drivers and a dispatcher noticed that the tourist van was traveling at a high speed before the collision occurred.
The driver of the tourist van declined to give a statement following the accident.
Police in Carcar City are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident.
Meanwhile, local traffic authorities reminded motorists to avoid driving when tired, sleepy, or under the influence of alcohol, and urged the public to refrain from overspeeding to help prevent road accidents. — (FREEMAN)
