Boat sinks off Quezon; 5 rescued

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — A municipal councilor and his four companions were rescued after their motorized banca capsized in the waters between Lucena and Pagbilao in Quezon province on Friday afternoon.
Rescued were Councilor Abner Dayo of Sampaloc, Quezon, and his companions – Howel Gagan, Edwin Principe, Vicente Salayo and Joey Sobrepiñas.
Reports said the group rented the banca for a fishing expedition along the coast of Pagbilao.
However, big waves and strong winds battered the boat until it capsized at around 2:55 p.m., according to Maj. Arjon Oxina, Pagbilao police chief.
The councilor was able to contact the chief of the Unisan police, who immediately informed the Pagbilao police about the incident.
A rescue operation was launched by the local police and members of Bantay Dagat, who brought the group to the Dalahican Port in Lucena where they were given medical attention.
