Casimero pulverizes Nery in TKO win

MANILA, Philippines -- The dominance of John Riel Casimero was on full display on Saturday.
“Quadro Alas” scored a huge technical knockout victory over Luis Nery in a catchweight bout, stopping his Mexican foe in the fourth round Saturday afternoon in Japan.
Casimero knocked Nery down thrice in the first round and once each in the second and third before stopping him for good in the fourth.
The 37-year-old Filipino came out swinging, making his opponent touch earth barely 30 seconds in the match with a combination.
He then sent the younger Mexican to the canvas for the second time with a left at the 1:35 mark of the first, before another combination rattled Nery anew less than 20 seconds after.
Casimero kept the pressure on in the second round, knocking Nery down anew as the brash Filipino also taunted his opponent.
Another knockdown was tallied late in the third round as the flurry of Casimero’s punches were too great to overcome for the Mexican.
And the end finally came in the fourth round, with a 1-2 combination by the pride of Ormoc, Leyte placing the cherry on top of the win.
“Maraming salamat sa lahat ng pumunta, lalo na sa Panginoon na binigay ang panalo sa akin, ang tagumpay,” Casimero said after the match.
“Alam ko naman na malakas ang Nery. Ang tagumpay na ito, para kong tinalo si Naoya Inoue… Yung tagumpay ngayon, alam niyo na bakit natakot sa akin si Naoya Inoue, that’s why.”
This is Quadro Alas’ second straight win after beating Tom Mizokoshi also in Japan last year.
Casimero's record rose to 36-5-1 (win-loss-draw) with 25 knockouts, while “Pantera” dropped to 37-3.
