CEBU, Philippines — At least 1,255 individuals were apprehended for various local ordinance violations during the intensified anti-criminality operations conducted across Cebu Province from June 1 to 2, 2026 as part of the Cebu Police Provincial Office’s (CPPO) implementation of the Safer Cities Initiative.

The operations were carried out in line with the directive of Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla to strengthen peace and order through the strict enforcement of local laws, increased police visibility, and sustained public discipline campaigns.

According to CPPO, police units carried out a total of 433 operations provincewide, resulting in the apprehension of individuals for violations involving drinking and smoking in public places, roaming half-naked in streets, curfew infractions, unauthorized videoke operations, traffic regulations, and other violations during the two-day period.

The operations documented 876 violations of City and Municipal Traffic Ordinances, accounting for the largest number of apprehensions, followed by 131 minors violating curfew ordinances.

Authorities also recorded 130 individuals cited for drinking in public places, 66 individuals roaming shirtless in public areas, 29 violators for smoking in prohibited places, 16 videoke or karaoke violations beyond allowable hours, and seven other local ordinance violators on both dates.

During the two-day operations, the authorities collected a total of ?351,800 in fines and penalties from the violators.

The latest figures underscore the sustained efforts of CPPO to address disorderly conduct and traffic-related violations, which are often linked to public disturbances and safety concerns within communities.

CPPO Director PCOL Abubakar Udang Mangelen Jr. emphasized that the initiative aims to instill discipline and encourage greater respect for local laws.

“The Safer Cities Initiative is not merely about issuing citations or imposing penalties. It is about creating a culture of responsibility and respect for community rules. Every ordinance enforced contributes to safer roads, more peaceful neighborhoods, and a higher quality of life for our citizens. We remain committed to proactive policing that protects communities while fostering cooperation between law enforcement and the public,” Mangelen said.

Meanwhile, Police Regional Office-7 Director PBGEN Arnold Abad commended the police units for their consistent implementation of preventive law enforcement measures.

“The success of the Safer Cities Initiative demonstrates the value of visible policing and community-oriented enforcement. By addressing minor violations and maintaining order in public spaces, our police officers help prevent larger security concerns and strengthen public confidence in law enforcement. I commend the men and women of CPPO for their dedication to this mission,” Abad stated.

The CPPO assured the public that the Safer Cities Initiative will continue through sustained anti-criminality operations, intensified ordinance enforcement, and close coordination with local government units to ensure safe, orderly, and livable communities throughout the province. — Paul Benedict Sariana, CNU Intern/MRM (FREEMAN)
