MANILA, Philippines — It must be something special when music and sports come together in a place as historic as Manila.

This as the AIA Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series Manila presented by ASICS is returning to the iconic streets and bridges of the country’s capital and premier city on November 29.

And to celebrate its fifth year, organizing Sunrise Events is bringing National Artist for music Ryan Cayabyab in an event using the theme of “Ito ay atin, sariling atin (This is ours, our very own)” that was culled from his OPM originals he himself composed in the past.

“This year is more than a celebration, it is a celebration of Filipino identity, music, and the community that helped build Rock ‘n’ Roll Manila over the last five years,” said Sunrise Events president and general manager Princess Galura during Tuesday’s media launch at the Manila City Hall’s Bulwagang Villegas.

Also present were host Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso and Vice Mayor Chi Atienza, AIA Philippines’ Katherine Wong and ASICS for Sonak brand director Ines Preysler.

Cayabyab lent his music to the event while giving the main ideas of this year’s medals that will be given in marathon, half marathon, 10k, 5k, 1k Kids and Remix.

He was joined by Geneva Cruz, formerly of Smokey Mountain or the child group Cayabyab formed, along with actress and dancer Regine Tolentino and actor and director Rowell Santiago.

“Thank you for choosing Manila as the venue and giving us a chance to showcase our rich history,” said Domagoso.

For Wong, she said they “believe sports like running is a powerful way to embrace a healthy lifestyle, and through this event, we aim to inspire more Filipinos to take charge of their wellness.”
