PNP eyes South Korea model to boost drive vs crime

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police is set to modernize the PNP’s crime data management system through a partnership with South Korea aimed at improving investigative efficiency, accelerating response times and enhancing crime-solving capabilities.
The initiative came after the PNP and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) signed an agreement with the Korea International Cooperation Agency last week to develop the Criminal Investigation Data Management and Analysis System or CIDMAS, a unified crime data platform designed to streamline law enforcement operations.
Under the agreement, CIDMAS will integrate fragmented crime investigation databases into a single system, reducing manual data entry and improving information verification, coordination and access among investigators.
According to the PNP, the platform is expected to shorten investigation timelines, strengthen crime analysis and support more effective crime prevention efforts through a data-driven approach to policing.
Nartatez said the PNP, under the guidance of DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla, has been working closely with South Korean counterparts, citing their advanced law enforcement systems and technology-based policing model.
“This modernization will significantly reduce our reaction times and substantially increase our case resolution rates across all regional units,” Nartatez said.
He noted that South Korea’s policing framework demonstrates how integrated technology can support proactive law enforcement strategies.
“Through this collaboration, the PNP is adopting world-class methodologies in big-data crime analysis and strategic monitoring,” Nartatez said.
