MANILA, Philippines — After cutting trees along Quirino Avenue in Manila, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) will focus on seedling replacement and transplantation activities.

The DENR said the tree cutting was voluntarily halted by the project proponent.

DENR Assistant Secretary Norlito Eneran said the agency would begin the seedling replacement activities next week.

Around 50,700 native species seedlings will be planted across Manila to rehabilitate the affected sites, Eneran said.

“We are making sure that we are doing the right thing, especially on earth-balling and assessment of trees on Quirino Avenue,” Eneran said.

Among the identified sites for the program are the Mehan Garden, Plaza Dilao, Manila Boys Town complex, Taft Avenue, Rizal Avenue and Roxas Boulevard.

The DENR had allowed the tree cutting on Quirino Avenue to make way for the Southern Access Link Expressway connected to the Skyway.
