MANILA, Philippines —  A global crisis relief bill initiated by the House leadership has reached the plenary.

The Kalinga Act, or Komprehensibong Alalay sa Livelihood, Inflation, Negosyo at Goods Assistance, will provide aid amid oil price shocks triggered by the United States and Israel’s attack on Iran.

Speaker Faustino Dy III and House Majority Leader Sandro Marcos filed the measure.

In his sponsorship speech on Tuesday, Marikina Rep. Miro Quimbo said the bill “authorizes direct and targeted assistance to affected households and sectors, including cash, food, fuel, electricity, transport, MSME (micro, small and medium enterprises), labor and OFW (overseas Filipino worker) related support.”

Existing beneficiary targeting and delivery methods will be strengthened through an interoperable data system using existing government databases, Quimbo noted.

Four economic managers of President Marcos are supporting the Kalinga bill.

Endorsing House Bill 8834 are the Departments of Budget and Management, Finance, Economy, Planning and Development and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas
