MANILA, Philippines —  Senators who may be found to have plotted to keep Sen. Ronald dela Rosa from attending Monday’s crucial session could have committed a crime, Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano said.

Without naming the senators, Cayetano yesterday said the matter could be tackled by the Senate committee on ethics. He did not specify the crimes some of his colleagues may have committed.

Dela Rosa’s unexpected appearance provided the decisive 13th vote that ousted Sen. Vicente Sotto III and installed Cayetano as the new Senate president.

His arrival was met by National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) operatives attempting to serve an International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant right inside the Senate halls.

Speaking to reporters, Cayetano revealed that the ongoing probe on the chaotic standoff might be elevated to the committee on ethics, as there could have been a deliberate scheme to block Dela Rosa from voting.
