Caloy to remain away from Philippines
MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Depression Caloy is expected to remain far from the Philippine landmass before possibly weakening into a low-pressure area (LPA) today, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.
In its 4 p.m. weather bulletin yesterday, PAGASA said Caloy was last spotted 470 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar.
The tropical depression was moving northward at 10 kilometers per hour, carrying maximum sustained winds of 45 kph and gustiness of up to 55 kph.
PAGASA said Caloy is not expected to make landfall and may weaken into an LPA by early morning.
Although the tropical depression will not directly affect the country, its trough will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Eastern Samar, Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Islands.
Meanwhile, another LPA outside the Philippine area of responsibility was last monitored 1,725 kilometers east of Northeastern Mindanao.
The weather disturbance, according to PAGASA, is unlikely to develop into a tropical cyclone.
