CALAX Biñan-General Trias segment opens toll-free for a month

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. opened a new segment of the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) on Monday, May 4, offering motorists a one-month toll-free period for the latest completed phase of the south Luzon project.
The 7.88-kilometer Subsection 3 extends the expressway to the Governor’s Drive Interchange in General Trias, Cavite, cutting travel time between Biñan, Laguna, and General Trias to about 26 minutes from roughly one hour.
"I can announce na mabuksan ninyo starting 12 midnight tonight… and for one month wala na munang toll (It will open starting 12 midnight tonight... and for one month, there will be no toll)," Marcos said, as quoted on a Palace news release.
The president encouraged motorists to take advantage of the newly opened segment.
"So 'yung ating mga kababayan gamitin ninyo… mararamdaman ninyo ang malaking ginhawa (Our countrymen should use it… and feel the convenience it brings)," he said.
Subsection 3 is expected to accommodate around 6,000 additional motorists daily, providing a route that bypasses congested local roads in Cavite.
The new segment covers a specific portion of the CALAX corridor along the Biñan-General Trias route but not yet completing the full expressway link.
Project still in phases
With the latest opening, CALAX now spans 26 kilometers of its planned 44.6-kilometer length.
Once completed, the expressway will link the Manila-Cavite Expressway, or CAVITEX, to the South Luzon Expressway, or SLEX.
CALAX is developed and operated by the government's private sector partners, including Metro Pacific Tollways Corp.
"This is 10 years in the making… the usual problem in road construction is right of way," he said.
