VP lauds Army for neutralizing NPA, terror threats

MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte yesterday saluted Philippine Army soldiers for their service and for dismantling New People’s Army (NPA) camps in the country.
Duterte issued a message during the celebration of the Army’s 129th founding anniversary, honoring the military agency’s legacy and the service demonstrated by its soldiers, which she said is “the highest form of sacrifice.”
“Your unyielding courage is the reason our Republic remains sovereign, and our people remain free,” she said.
The Vice President recognized their contribution to upholding peace and securing the country.
“By dismantling the camps of the New People’s Army and neutralizing the threats of terrorism, you have given our communities the room to breathe, grow, and thrive,” she said.
“Your victories against insurgency are not just tactical wins – they are the building blocks of a stable and prosperous nation,” Duterte added.
She also pointed out that the Army’s contribution is not limited to fighting insurgency alone, and highlighted its humanitarian works.
“Beyond the battlefield, you are also the first to arrive in times of disaster – serving as a beacon of hope and a lifeline to our people during their darkest hours,” she said.
She asked the soldiers to maintain their integrity. “I count on you to stay steadfast as our pillar of hope, ensuring that no Filipino has to live in fear.”
The Vice President told them to “Continue to be the shield that protects our democracy and the strength that guards our future.”
